Bengaluru, March 29: The opening match of IPL 2026 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased a heartwarming moment as two legends of Indian cricket, former captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, embraced, signaling a thaw in their long-standing relationship.
Before the toss at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the sight of Kohli and Kumble hugging captured the attention of fans on social media. Kumble had taken over as head coach of the Indian team in 2016 when Kohli was the captain. Their relationship had been strained, leading to Kumble’s early resignation due to disagreements over his coaching methods and a strict approach towards players. Even after his resignation, tensions lingered between the two.
However, their recent encounter on Saturday suggested that both have moved past their differences. On the field, they shared a warm hug and engaged in friendly conversation.
Kohli also met former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, sparking discussions on social media. Steyn brought an old India jersey with Kohli’s name on it, requesting an autograph. Kohli appeared touched and happy, flashing a warm smile before signing the jersey.
RCB, the defending champions after winning IPL 2025, is eager to retain their title in IPL 2026.
