Kolkata, April 19: The 28th match of IPL 2026 is underway at Eden Gardens, featuring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). RR won the toss and chose to bat first.
After winning the toss, RR captain Riyan Parag stated, “We are batting first. The wicket looks quite dry. The grass was cut yesterday. The first innings may turn, and that could continue later as well. So, we want to set the tone early. Our focus is on improving. The last match was a learning phase, and we need to carry that into this game. Hetmyer and Brijesh are back, replacing Pretorius and Tushar Deshpande.”
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed, “We wanted to bat first. We want our batsmen to feel no pressure. Our bowlers have started performing well. I’m happy to lose the toss. We have won before. We can’t predict the future; we’ll focus on what we can control. Our preparation has been excellent, and we are playing with the same team.”
Rajasthan Royals are having a stellar season in IPL 2026, currently sitting third in the standings with four wins out of their last five matches. A victory in this match could propel them to the top of the table.
KKR, on the other hand, is still in search of their first win of the season. They have lost five out of their first six matches, with one match being washed out due to rain.
