Investigation Unfolds in Lucknow Double Murder-Suicide Case Involving Divorce Settlement

Lucknow, August 22: The investigation into a shocking double murder and suicide case in Lucknow has taken a new turn. Police are examining a financial dispute between the accused and his estranged wife, which allegedly involves a demand for one crore rupees as part of a divorce settlement.

According to police reports, 38-year-old Manas Vajpayee allegedly shot and killed his wife, Divya Mishra, outside her workplace at an ICICI Bank branch in Gomti Nagar. Following this, he reportedly returned home, killed his 28-year-old sister, Shiva Vajpayee, and then took his own life.

Investigating officers are now scrutinizing documents related to the divorce proceedings between Manas and Divya. Sources indicate that the couple had been married for approximately 12 years but had been living separately for over a year.

Reports suggest that Divya filed for divorce last year. Investigators are also looking into allegations that Manas demanded one crore rupees as alimony or financial settlement.

NDTV has reported that documents related to the divorce case have been found, and the investigation team is examining them closely. It has come to light that a local court heard the divorce case just two days before the murders, where financial settlement issues were reportedly discussed.

Police are investigating whether the dispute over the divorce settlement could have triggered this alleged crime. In addition to the financial disagreement, investigators are also looking into the couple’s troubled relationship and conflicts related to Shiva, who was reportedly struggling with mental health issues.

Shiva had been living with the couple, and police are examining whether repeated arguments regarding her care and condition negatively impacted Manas and Divya’s relationship.

Meanwhile, Divya’s sister and YouTuber Pragya Mishra has accused Manas of abusing her sister during their marriage. In a social media post on Friday, Pragya claimed that Manas would become violent over trivial matters. She asserted that it was Manas’s alleged cruel behavior that led Divya to seek separation.

Pragya also questioned how Manas obtained the weapons allegedly used in the incident.

Police reported that Manas, who worked at the State Bank of India, called Divya to her workplace in Gomti Nagar on Thursday. Reports indicate that they conversed for several minutes before Manas allegedly opened fire.

Divya was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Following this, police stated that Manas returned home, shot his sister, and then turned the gun on himself.

Investigators have also discovered that before his death, Manas posted a status online taking responsibility for the murders and blaming his wife.

Police are currently investigating the sequence of events, the alleged financial dispute, the weapons used, and other potential motives behind the incident.
