Inter-State Auto Theft Ring Busted; Two Arrested in Delhi-Punjab Operation
Police in New Delhi dismantled a major auto theft ring, arresting two suspects and recovering five stolen vehicles.

New Delhi, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Central District Police in New Delhi achieved significant success in two separate operations. The first involved the busting of an inter-state auto theft racket that spanned from Delhi to Punjab. Two auto-lifters were arrested in Punjab, and five stolen vehicles were recovered. In a second case, police apprehended two suspects in a mobile phone snatching incident, one of whom is a minor.
The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Central District uncovered the Punjab-based auto theft racket. Officers arrested Shamser (33) and Rinku, also known as Rinky (39), both residents of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, Punjab. They were found in possession of five stolen cars, including four Hyundai Creta models and one Maruti Dzire. This led to the resolution of five motor vehicle theft cases.
The investigation began on October 14, following a complaint from a resident of Old Rajinder Nagar about the theft of a white Hyundai Creta parked outside their home. Given the seriousness of the situation, the AATS was tasked with the inquiry.
Through a combination of manual intelligence and technical surveillance, police discovered that the Punjab gang was stealing well-maintained vehicles from Delhi-NCR and selling them in Punjab using fake number plates. On October 16, police raided Jandiala Guru in Amritsar based on a tip-off and arrested Shamser, recovering a black Hyundai Creta from him. During questioning, he revealed information about his accomplice Rinku, who was also apprehended that same day. The white Creta linked to the Rajinder Nagar case was recovered following Rinku’s lead.
The suspects admitted to stealing vehicles at night from Delhi-NCR, attaching fake number plates, and selling them through their contact, Harpreet, also known as Honey, a resident of Amritsar. Police are currently searching for Harpreet and other members of the racket.
In the second incident, police from Central District apprehended two suspects in a mobile snatching case in PP Sidhipura, PS DBG Road. One of the suspects is a 20-year-old named Jogender from Sadar Bazar, Delhi, and the other is a 16-year-old minor.
The incident occurred near the Rani Jhansi Flyover in Filmistan, Delhi. A 42-year-old victim reported that he had just arrived in Delhi from Jaipur by bus and was talking on his phone when three individuals on a scooter snatched his mobile and fled towards DCM Chowk. A case was registered under the BNS.
CCTV footage showed three individuals arriving on a red metallic Honda Activa without a number plate. Police arrested two suspects and recovered the victim’s mobile phone and the scooter used in the crime, which was also found to be stolen. Authorities are now searching for a third suspect and investigating the suspects’ criminal records.
