Indias Progress Against Naxalism: Tuhin Sinha Highlights Government Achievements

Mumbai, March 31: BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha stated on Monday that due to the strong political will of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, India has significantly reduced Naxalism.

In an interview, he claimed that government efforts have led to the neutralization of nearly 1,000 Naxalites, while over 4,000 have surrendered and returned to the mainstream, expanding economic opportunities in affected areas. A crucial aspect of this change is that approximately 100 districts previously impacted by Naxal terrorism are gradually overcoming this issue. Development and economic activities are now on the rise in these regions.

For instance, Gadchiroli, once considered a stronghold of Naxalites, is witnessing the construction of a steel plant costing around ₹10,000 crores. This project will not only create job opportunities but also integrate former Naxalites into the mainstream, providing them with sustainable livelihoods and transforming the area into an economic hub.

Sinha further noted that the Bastar region, which previously experienced the highest incidents of Naxalite violence, has been hosting the ‘Bastar Olympics’ for the past two years. About 40 to 50 percent of the participants are individuals who were once involved in Naxal activities but have now returned to the mainstream. This shift is seen as a positive sign towards social inclusion and peace.

He emphasized that these nearly 100 districts hold immense potential for economic development and could play a crucial role in the direction of a ‘Developed India’ in the coming decades. In the next three to four years, these districts alone could contribute to an annual GDP growth of 0.5 to 0.7 percent.

Tuhin Sinha also stated that a Naxal-free India is one of the Modi government’s greatest achievements in terms of national security. Over the past 49 years, Naxal terrorism has claimed around 25,000 lives, including many politicians. He accused the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of not taking the issue seriously and avoiding the classification of Naxalism as terrorism, which allowed Naxalite attacks to peak during that time.
