Indian Womens T20 Team Announced for South Africa Tour, Anushka Sharma Makes Her Debut

Mumbai, March 24: The Indian women’s cricket team has been announced for the upcoming five-match T20 series against South Africa. Anushka Sharma has been included in the squad for the first time. The series is set to begin on April 17.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed a 15-member team that will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The first two matches of the series will take place in Durban on April 17 and 19. The next two T20 matches will be hosted by Johannesburg on April 22 and 25, with the final match scheduled for April 27 in Benoni.

Anushka, a 22-year-old all-rounder from Gujarat Giants, earned her spot in the team following an impressive performance in the Women’s Premier League 2026, where she was the most expensive uncapped player at the auction. She was also part of the Indian team that won the Rising Stars Women’s Asia Cup. After returning from the Australia tour in February, Bharti Fulmali has retained her place in the squad, adding depth to the middle order. Fast bowler Kashvi Gautam has also been included, joining Renuka Thakur and Arundhati Reddy to strengthen India’s pace attack.

Sneh Rana has been dropped from the team for the T20 series against South Africa. Additionally, young bowlers Vaishnavi Sharma and Amanjot Kaur have not been selected. Vaishnavi was part of the team during the T20 series against Australia. This series is considered crucial for preparations ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which starts on June 12. South Africa and India are grouped with Australia, Pakistan, and two qualifying teams for the T20 World Cup.
