Indian Peacekeepers in Lebanon Receive High Praise for Their Role

Beirut, May 12: The Indian Embassy in Lebanon has commended the Indian peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon for their exemplary service. The embassy noted that these soldiers have once again excelled in mission support and operational collaboration.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the embassy stated, “In challenging conditions, the Indian convoy assisted in the safe induction and de-induction of Nepalese soldiers to and from UN bases. Additionally, they provided full logistical and accommodation support for over 450 individuals at UNP 4-2.”

The embassy further highlighted that the swift and uninterrupted assistance provided by the Indian peacekeepers was highly appreciated by the force commander, sector commander (Sector East), and the outgoing contingent commander.

According to the embassy, Indian peacekeepers continue to uphold a tradition of professionalism, camaraderie, and strong dedication, allowing the tricolor to fly proudly.

Last month, a French soldier deployed in the United Nations peacekeeping mission (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon was killed, and three others were injured. India condemned this attack, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and punishment for the perpetrators.

India also reiterated the importance of respecting the safety and sanctity of UN bases and personnel, appealing to all parties to ensure the security of peacekeepers.

In March, India raised concerns about the safety of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. During this time, three Ghanaian peacekeepers were injured at their base due to heavy gunfire in the area where they were stationed.

Currently, there are 642 Indian peacekeepers among a total of 7,438 soldiers in UNIFIL, making India the second-largest contributing country. This peacekeeping mission, initiated in 1978, aims to monitor the cessation of hostilities and assist the Lebanese government in regaining control over southern regions.
