Indian Olympic Association Launches Tree Planting Campaign for Olympic Day Celebration

New Delhi, March 12: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has urged all affiliated state and union territory Olympic Associations to initiate a tree planting campaign as part of this year’s Olympic Day celebrations. Each association is encouraged to plant 2,036 trees.

In a press release from President P.T. Usha, the IOA stated that this initiative aims to showcase the Olympic Movement’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility. It also seeks to inspire communities across the nation to celebrate Olympic Day through meaningful environmental actions.

The release highlighted that this nationwide tree planting campaign aligns with the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Forest initiative. It reflects India’s growing commitment to environmental stewardship through sports. The symbolic planting of 2,036 trees represents the desire to foster the Olympic Movement and build a sustainable future.

State and union territory Olympic Associations are encouraged to collaborate with local sports bodies, educational institutions, athletes, youth organizations, and government agencies. This collaboration aims to ensure maximum participation and long-lasting impact. Tree planting can take place in sports facilities, schools, parks, and other public spaces to enhance community involvement.

This initiative strengthens the Olympic Movement’s vision of creating a better and healthier world through sports while promoting environmental development for future generations.

Olympic Day is a global celebration of sports and active living, commemorated annually on June 23 to honor the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894. The first Olympic Day was celebrated in 1948.
