Lucknow, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) made a significant breakthrough on Saturday by arresting a terrorist linked to the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Nabeel from Chitara, Mahmoodpur, Didarganj in Azamgarh, is accused of promoting the ideology of AQIS.
Authorities allege that Nabeel was actively recruiting youth through social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp. He created a group named “Ghalib-Illallah,” where he used coded language related to jihad, weapons, and chemical plans. Investigations revealed that he aimed to connect with individuals from other countries to collaborate with Pakistan for a campaign known as Gazwa-e-Hind. Notably, people from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Saudi Arabia were also linked to his WhatsApp group.
This arrest follows a recent operation in Thane, Maharashtra, where the ATS apprehended a man named Sohel Razzak Sheikh. Sheikh, a truck driver, was accused of sharing videos of wanted terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Farhatullah Ghori and Jaish-e-Mohammad leader Masood Azhar, on Instagram. He reportedly expressed a fascination with their videos, which led him to download and post them on social media.
ATS officials confirmed that Sheikh had established an Instagram group two years ago, amassing around 200 members. He consistently uploaded content related to Ghori and Azhar, further illustrating the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating online radicalization.
