New Delhi, March 16: The Indian Ministry of Shipping has reported that 22 Indian-flagged vessels are currently in the western region of the Hormuz Strait, carrying a total of 611 crew members. There have been no reports of incidents in the last 24 hours. The ministry confirmed that the vessel ‘Jag Ladki’ departed from the UAE on March 14. This information was shared during a press briefing.

Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, stated, “The Shivalik LPG carrier, which left the Persian Gulf, has successfully crossed the Hormuz Strait and is en route to India.”

He added that all necessary documentation and priority berthing arrangements have been completed at the port to ensure timely unloading of the cargo.

Sinha assured that all Indian sailors in the Persian Gulf region are safe. He mentioned, “There have been no reports of incidents in the last 24 hours, and we are continuously monitoring the situation. We maintain contact with every ship and its crew. Currently, there are still 22 Indian-flagged vessels in the Hormuz Strait, with 611 Indian sailors on board.”

He also noted that the ship from the UAE is expected to arrive in India with crude oil by March 17. “The Indian-flagged vessel ‘Jag Ladki’ set sail from the UAE on March 14, carrying approximately 81,000 tons of Murban crude oil. The ship and all its Indian crew members are safe. It is scheduled to reach Mundra Port tomorrow.”

During the briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided updates on Indian citizens caught in conflict zones. He stated, “About 90 of our citizens have reached Azerbaijan from Iran via land routes. The Indian Embassy in Tehran assisted them in obtaining visas and completing necessary immigration formalities.”

He further explained, “Among the 550 individuals previously reported to have reached Armenia from Iran, 284 were pilgrims who had traveled to Iran. They are currently in both countries. Some have returned to India, while the rest are expected to return in the coming days.”

Jaiswal emphasized that the Indian Embassy in Tehran is fully operational despite challenging circumstances. He added, “In recent days, the embassy has also assisted Indian students located outside Tehran in reaching safer cities.”
