Indian Companies Raise Over ₹2 Lakh Crore Through IPOs in FY26

New Delhi, April 20: Indian companies have successfully raised ₹2,01,442 crore through 153 Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in the fiscal year 2026, according to a report released on Monday.

The report highlights that companies managed to secure capital via IPOs during a period of market volatility driven by global factors. HDFC Securities noted that the foundation of India’s economy remains strong, with an expected growth rate of 6.5% for the fiscal year 2027.

The government’s infrastructure spending continues to play a crucial role, with projections suggesting that nearly one-third of total expenditure in FY27 will be capital expenditure. Inflation is expected to remain controlled at around 4.5%, while the fiscal deficit is anticipated to stay at the targeted level of 4.3%.

The report further indicates that external pressures persist. Weak foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) could continue to exert pressure on the Indian rupee. These factors have contributed to the rupee’s depreciation since early 2022.

On the income front, the report estimates a nearly 10% increase in total corporate earnings, although performance may vary across different sectors. Gradual improvements are expected in the banking, consumer discretionary, metals, and telecommunications sectors, while the energy sector may face some challenges.

In recent months, particularly in the mid-cap and small-cap segments, valuations have declined, yet they remain above long-term averages. According to the report, benchmark indices have approached historically attractive levels.

Retail investor participation remains a significant pillar in the market. The number of demat accounts has surged to over 222 million, with active equity traders exceeding 14.8 million as of February 2026. The report also notes that investments in mutual funds through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) have remained robust, exceeding ₹30,000 crore annually.
