
Ulaanbaatar, April 7: Indian boxer Preeti Pawar has secured her place in the finals of the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship in the elite women’s 54 kg category. She triumphed over Korea’s AG Im, a bronze medalist from the Paris Olympics, in the semifinals. Fellow Indian boxers Priya and Arundhati Chaudhary also advanced to the finals after defeating their respective semifinal opponents with ease.
In the women’s 54 kg semifinal, Preeti delivered a calm and precise performance, dominating all three rounds to win 5-0. She will face Huang Hsiao-wen from Chinese Taipei in the gold medal match. Huang is a three-time world champion (2019, 2023, 2025) and a bronze medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Priya showcased her strength in the women’s 60 kg semifinal, defeating Namoon Monkhor by a unanimous decision of 5-0 to secure her spot in the finals. She will now compete against North Korea’s Un Kyong Won for the title. In the women’s 65 kg semifinal, Ankushita Boro faced a setback, losing 0-3 to Nien-Chin Chen from Chinese Taipei, a bronze medalist from the Paris Olympics. The match was interrupted due to a power outage after the first round, and the result was declared based on points.
Arundhati impressed in the women’s 70 kg semifinal, winning 4-1 against Oysha Toirova. She displayed full control and composure throughout the match to reach the finals, where she will meet Kazakhstan’s Bakit Saidish.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 51 kg semifinal, Nikhat Zareen lost 0-5 to China’s Wu Yu, the current Olympic gold medalist and one of the most formidable boxers in this category. In the women’s 75 kg division, Lovlina Borgohain was defeated 0-5 by Uzbekistan’s Azizha Jokirova, a bronze medalist from the 70 kg World Championship, known for her aggressive style and impressive international record.
In the women’s 80 kg category, Pooja Rani was eliminated after losing 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Nadezhda Ryabets, a seasoned athlete and bronze medalist from the 2023 World Championship. Four Indian women boxers have now reached the finals. Semifinal matches in the women’s 48 kg and 57 kg categories will take place on April 7.
