New Delhi, August 14: Indian Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth met with women military officers from ASEAN countries on Thursday in New Delhi. During this meeting, the Army Chief honored these officers who are participating in the ASEAN-United Nations Women Military Officers Course organized by the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping.
General Seth engaged in discussions with the eleven ASEAN women military officers and their Indian counterparts. He praised their commitment and contributions to enhancing women’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Notably, this specialized training course is being held from August 10 to 21, 2026, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. Its aim is to provide military officers with essential training before deployment in UN peacekeeping missions. The training covers various aspects, methodologies, and responsibilities related to UN peacekeeping operations.
This initiative is also considered significant for strengthening defense cooperation between India and ASEAN countries. The course was announced by the Defense Minister during the third India-ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur in 2025. Through this initiative, India has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing the role and participation of women in UN peacekeeping missions, while also promoting regional cooperation and military capacity building.
India has long played an active role in UN peacekeeping missions. By offering specialized training programs for women military officers, India is not only promoting female participation but also enhancing military training and experience exchange with ASEAN countries.
In terms of defense cooperation, this course represents an important step towards increasing the role of women military officers in India-ASEAN relations and developing shared capabilities for UN peacekeeping missions.
