
New Delhi, August 14: Indian Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth met with medal-winning athletes from the Indian Army who participated in the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow. He recognized their achievements and honored them for their remarkable performances.
At the Glasgow event, 15 athletes from the Army secured a total of 16 medals, including 8 gold, 7 silver, and 1 bronze. These athletes showcased their skills in boxing, athletics, para-athletics, judo, and weightlifting. Overall, India won 39 medals at the Glasgow 2026 Games, with 16 medals attributed to Army athletes.
The Army’s performance in boxing was particularly outstanding, with athletes claiming 6 gold and 2 silver medals in this category alone. During his interaction with the athletes, General Seth praised their dedication, discipline, and consistent excellence. He emphasized that achieving excellence in sports is a vital part of the Indian Army’s work culture and ethos.
He encouraged the athletes to strive for even greater accomplishments in upcoming international competitions. Among the gold medalists, Havildar Harsh Singh won gold in the men’s 60 kg judo category. Naib Subedar Preeti secured gold in the women’s 54 kg boxing category, while Naib Subedar Jasmin Lamboria achieved gold in the women’s 57 kg category. Subedar Soman Rana won gold in the men’s para shot put F-57 category.
Additionally, Havildar Sakshi, Havildar Arundhati Chaudhary, Havildar Sachin Siwach, and Havildar Ankush Panghal each won gold medals in their respective boxing weight categories. Havildar Harsh Singh also excelled in judo, while Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh made history by winning silver in the men’s 10,000 meters and bronze in the 5,000 meters.
In the medal tally for the Army, Naib Subedar Sarvesh Kushare won silver in the men’s high jump. Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh also earned silver in the 10,000 meters and bronze in the 5,000 meters. Havildar Valluri Ajaya Babu secured a silver medal in weightlifting.
Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Neeraj Chopra claimed silver in the men’s javelin throw, while Havildar Jadumani Singh won silver in boxing. Lance Naik Shubham Juyal earned silver in men’s para shot put, and Subedar Narendra Barwal secured silver in the men’s over 90 kg boxing category.
According to the Army, the athletes’ performance in Glasgow reflects its commitment to identifying sports talent, providing expert training, and creating an environment conducive to competing at the highest levels. Indian Army athletes have consistently represented the nation in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and other major international competitions.
