India Triumphs Over USA in ICC Mens T20 World Cup Opener

New Delhi, February 8: India kicked off the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a thrilling victory, defeating the USA by 29 runs at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. However, the win did not come easily, as the team faced challenges during the match. Captain Suryakumar Yadav played a stellar innings, scoring an unbeaten 84 runs, while Mohammad Siraj, who joined the team late, showcased exceptional bowling with figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs.

Before the match, India was under pressure due to the absence of all-rounder Harshit Rana, who was injured, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was sidelined by illness. Batting first on a pitch that offered movement and grip, India struggled initially, losing 6 wickets for just 77 runs. USA’s Shadley Van Shalkwyk bowled effectively, putting India in a precarious position.

Despite the early setbacks, Suryakumar Yadav took charge. In his first T20 World Cup match as captain, he led from the front, playing shots all around the ground. He scored 84 runs off 49 balls, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes. Partnering with Axar Patel, he helped stabilize the innings, guiding India to a respectable total of 161/9.

In the bowling department, Mohammad Siraj made an immediate impact by taking two early wickets. He received excellent support from Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel, who also claimed two wickets each. The USA found themselves in trouble, losing 3 wickets for just 13 runs. However, Sanjay Krishnamurthy and Milind Kumar briefly revived the innings with a partnership of 58 runs.

Krishnamurthy (37 runs) and Shubham Ranjan (37 runs) fought hard, but India’s experienced bowlers regained control towards the end. In the final overs, Siraj and Arshdeep took crucial wickets, restricting the USA to 132/9. Thus, India secured a hard-fought victory.
