Mumbai, March 6: Sanjay Raut, a Member of Parliament from Shiv Sena (UBT), has strongly criticized the U.S. for granting India a one-month grace period regarding oil purchases from Russia. He linked this issue to India’s foreign policy and political sovereignty, expressing his discontent.
In a conversation with the media, Raut stated that it is unacceptable for another country to dictate when and how much oil India can buy. He emphasized that it is incomprehensible for any foreign nation to grant India such ‘permission.’ According to him, such allowances are typically given by a powerful country to a subordinate or weaker nation.
Raut pointed out that if it is being said that India has been given a month to purchase oil from Russia, it implies that India’s foreign policy is being influenced by external forces. He deemed this a negative indicator for India’s political autonomy.
He further asserted that seeking U.S. permission to buy oil from Russia signifies that India is subservient to the U.S. and will follow whatever directives are issued. He lamented the lack of a voice or role for India in its foreign policy.
Raut argued that if India requires energy and purchasing oil from Russia is beneficial, the decision should rest solely with the Indian government, not contingent upon the approval of another country.
He urged India’s political leadership and government to adopt a clear and assertive stance on this matter. Raut insisted that the country’s foreign policy must remain entirely independent and not be swayed by external pressures. He stressed that India should make international decisions based on its own interests.
