India Eyes Series Victory in Final T20 Against New Zealand

India aims to secure a 4-1 series win against New Zealand in the final T20 match at Sedon Park, with potential lineup changes in play.

Hamilton, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : India will face New Zealand in the fifth and final T20 match of their series at Sedon Park on Sunday, October 31. Currently leading the series 3-1, the Indian team might make some changes for this concluding match.

India started strong, winning the first two matches by 4 wickets each. They then secured an unassailable lead by winning the third match by 6 wickets. However, in the fourth match held in Auckland, the team suffered a heavy defeat, losing by 87 runs. This setback has prompted the team management to reconsider their playing eleven as they aim to finish the series on a high note.

One of the likely changes could see Vaibhav Sunil replacing Sanju Samson. After scoring 67 runs in the first match in Christchurch, Samson’s performance dwindled in subsequent innings, where he managed only 14, 18, and 4 runs. Meanwhile, captain Shreyas Iyer has also struggled for form since scoring his maiden T20 international century against the West Indies in Lucknow. In his last eight innings in this format, Iyer has scored 40, 1, 16, 22, 42, 7, 5, and 22 runs.

Following the T20 series, both teams will shift their focus to five One Day Internationals, which the visiting team is keen to perform well in. Iyer will be looking to deliver a significant performance in this series. Naman Dheer and Nitish Kumar Reddy have shown promise with the bat lower down the order, but their bowling has yet to make a notable impact.

Spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule hinted that wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy could be included in the playing eleven if conditions warrant it, although this would mean dropping Naman Dheer.

On the New Zealand side, they will look to Glenn Phillips, who scored a brilliant century in Auckland. Phillips has amassed 276 runs across four matches. Excluding Mark Chapman’s 290 runs against Pakistan in 2023, Phillips has the highest runs among Kiwi batsmen in this five-match bilateral T20 series.

The Indian team comprises Shreyas Iyer (captain), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dheer, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sunil, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Kumar Kushagra.

The New Zealand lineup features Mitchell Santner (captain), Devon Conway (wicketkeeper), Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Bevan Jacobs, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Josh Clarkson, Nathan Smith, Adam Milne, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, and Blair Tickner.
