India and Tanzania Hold First Army-to-Army Staff Talks to Enhance Defense Cooperation

India and Tanzania engage in their first army-to-army staff talks, focusing on strengthening defense cooperation and military training.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : India and Tanzania have convened their inaugural army-to-army staff talks in New Delhi from October 27 to 29, aiming to bolster defense cooperation. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral defense ties through military education, training exchanges, and capacity building.

During their visit, the Tanzanian delegation toured the 505 Army Base Workshop and the DPSU building, gaining insights into India’s military maintenance capabilities and indigenous defense manufacturing. The delegation also paid homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.

The Additional Director General of Public Information (ADGPI) for the Indian Army announced on social media that the primary goal of these talks was to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation through military education and training exchanges. The engagement is expected to reinforce mutual trust and commitment to deeper military collaboration between the two nations.

Earlier this year, significant discussions on defense cooperation took place between India and Tanzania. The fourth meeting of the Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC) was held on February 2 and 3 in Zanzibar, where military training, maritime security, and collaboration in the defense industry were key topics.

Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) of the Ministry of Defense, co-chaired this meeting. Officials from both nations explored new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as counter-terrorism activities, peacekeeping training, electronic warfare (EW), cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The Ministry of Defense’s Public Relations Directorate highlighted on social media that both sides considered new training opportunities in military training, maritime security, and the defense industry, along with counter-terrorism efforts and peacekeeping.

Traditionally, India and Tanzania have enjoyed friendly and cooperative relations. In recent years, their partnership has expanded across political understanding, diverse economic collaboration, and people-to-people connections, particularly in education, healthcare, and development partnerships.

Both countries continue to collaborate through capacity building training, concessional loan facilities, and grant-based projects. The strategic partnership between India and Tanzania was elevated during Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s official visit to India in 2023.
