India and Canada to Collaborate in Higher Education, Canadian Universities May Establish Campuses in India

India and Canada plan to enhance higher education ties, including potential Canadian university campuses in India.

New Delhi, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : India’s Education Minister Pralhad Joshi recently met with Canadian High Commissioner Christopher Cooter and Trade Commissioner Amy Antonini in New Delhi. The discussions focused on strengthening higher education relations between the two countries, expanding research partnerships, and promoting student exchanges.

Following the meeting, Joshi highlighted that a key topic was the implementation of memorandums of understanding announced during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The emphasis was on increasing collaboration between educational institutions and creating new opportunities for students and researchers.

The meeting also addressed facilitating the entry of Canadian universities into India and expanding academic activities under the National Education Policy 2020. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation between higher education institutions in both nations and pave the way for new partnerships in the education sector. Additionally, there was a focus on expanding joint research efforts, which could foster innovation and knowledge exchange between universities and researchers from both countries.

Strengthening student mobility and relationships between academic institutions was another priority discussed. The goal is to provide more academic collaboration opportunities for students and researchers from India and Canada. Joshi reiterated the commitment to deepen educational cooperation and increase opportunities for students and researchers.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to advance education, research, and innovation as critical areas of collaboration between India and Canada. Special attention was given to implementing the announced memorandums and revitalizing higher education relations while expanding partnerships between educational institutions in both countries.

Notably, last month, India and France also engaged in discussions regarding potential collaborations in higher education. During that meeting, Joshi invited French institutions to establish campuses in India, emphasizing the importance of strengthening institutional ties and facilitating the movement of students, teachers, and researchers between the two nations.
