Uttar Pradesh Cracks Down on Speeding: Over 6,700 Vehicles Ticketed in Two Days

In a bid to enhance road safety, Uttar Pradesh police have issued over 6,700 speeding tickets in just two days.

Lucknow, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government is taking significant steps to bolster road safety and reduce fatalities from traffic accidents. As part of this initiative, the traffic directorate of the Uttar Pradesh Police launched a special inspection campaign called “Operation Safe Speed” across all expressways.

In just two phases, the campaign resulted in 6,777 vehicles being fined, accumulating a total of ₹1,38,32,500 in penalties. The primary goal is to deter drivers from exceeding speed limits and to raise awareness about safe driving practices.

Under the guidance of UP DGP Rajeev Krishna and Additional Director General of Traffic A. Satish Ganesh, the operation monitored high-speed vehicles using interceptor units on key expressways and designated locations. Those violating speed regulations faced appropriate legal action.

The first phase of “Operation Safe Speed” took place on October 26, followed by the second phase on October 28, 2026. Both phases featured simultaneous inspections along the expressways. The Yamuna Expressway recorded the highest number of violations, with 3,116 tickets issued and fines totaling ₹66,98,000.

Other expressways also saw significant enforcement: 1,289 tickets on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway raised ₹24,18,000; 537 tickets on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway resulted in ₹11,82,500; and 553 tickets on the Ganga Expressway amounted to ₹9,40,000. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway had 497 violations with fines of ₹9,94,000, while the Purvanchal Expressway recorded 348 tickets, collecting ₹6,96,000. The Eastern Peripheral Expressway had 214 tickets totaling ₹4,28,000, and the Bundelkhand Expressway saw 103 tickets with fines of ₹2,28,000.

Additionally, the Gorakhpur-Purvanchal Link Expressway had 90 tickets resulting in ₹1,88,000, and the Kanpur-Varanasi Highway recorded 30 tickets with a fine of ₹60,000.

According to the traffic directorate, speeding is one of the leading causes of road accidents. Higher speeds increase the likelihood of serious or fatal incidents. The campaign aims not only to issue fines but also to instill a culture of adherence to traffic rules and safe driving practices among motorists.

By monitoring expressways with interceptor vehicles and taking action against violators, the government and police are striving to enhance traffic safety. This initiative sends a clear message to drivers about the importance of obeying speed limits, which is not just a legal obligation but a crucial responsibility for saving lives.

The police emphasize that drivers must prioritize their own safety as well as that of others on the road. Adhering to speed limits is essential for ensuring everyone’s well-being.
