Udaipur – Hindmetal Exploration Services Private Limited (HESPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hindustan Zinc Limited, has become the first company in India to implement advanced electromagnetic technology for mineral exploration. This technology uses borehole EM for subsurface detection and SQUID sensors for surface-level exploration.

Borehole EM provides high-resolution information about the shape and conductivity of conductive ore bodies such as sulphide deposits, enabling detailed mapping and analysis. SQUID sensors used on the surface are highly effective in capturing weak electromagnetic signals, making them useful for identifying low-conductivity or deep-buried mineral targets. This technology makes mineral exploration more accurate, faster, and efficient. It aids in locating and identifying the shape of deep-seated minerals like sulphides.

Additionally, HESPL is also using drones equipped with LiDAR and hyperspectral imaging to create high-resolution maps of large areas.

Alongside known mining regions, HESPL is focusing on greenfield exploration by identifying new mineral zones in previously unexplored areas. By integrating diverse datasets including geological, geophysical, geochemical, and satellite imagery, and analysing them through AI and ML models, the company is making more informed and predictive decisions about future exploration.

With a strong focus on critical minerals and base metals, HESPL is combining technology, talent, and data intelligence to unlock India’s hidden resource potential and shape a more sustainable future for mining.

Commenting on this initiative, Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra said, “We believe the future of mineral exploration lies at the intersection of science and smart technology. At Hindustan Zinc, we are committed to promoting digital innovation, empowering our people, and partnering with emerging tech startups. Hindmetal’s achievements are not just exploration milestones but also enhance India’s strategic autonomy in critical minerals.”

Hindmetal Exploration Services Private Limited follows a data-to-discovery approach to mineral exploration, offering comprehensive solutions through a systematic and science-based process. With over two decades of deep expertise in base metal exploration, the company operates with a dedicated team of full-time specialists in geology, geophysics, remote sensing (RS), GIS, and drilling.

Hindmetal has received prestigious accreditation from the Quality Council of IndiaNational Accreditation Board for Education and Training, granting it ‘Category A’ status as an exploration agency under Government of India guidelines.

With this technology and data-driven approach, Hindmetal is integrating geological, geophysical, and satellite data through AI and ML models to identify new mineral zones. The company aims to unlock India’s hidden mineral potential and shape a sustainable future for the mining sector.
