Himachal Pradesh CM Announces ₹1 Crore Reward for Kabaddi Gold Medalists

Shimla, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh has announced a reward of ₹1 crore each for three local players who were part of the Indian women’s kabaddi team that clinched gold at the 2026 Asian Games. The players, Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhavana Thakur, led by captain Pushpa Rana, triumphed over Iran with a score of 37-34 in the finals.

The victorious athletes met with the Chief Minister on Monday, where he congratulated them on their remarkable achievement. He presented them with traditional Himachali caps and shawls as a mark of honor. The Chief Minister also mentioned that a formal ceremony will be held soon to celebrate their success and distribute the announced rewards.

In addition to the monetary reward, Sukhu stated that the three players would be offered government jobs. For those not interested in joining the police department, positions in the Youth Services and Sports Department will be available. This initiative aims to support their sports careers while contributing to the promotion and development of sports in the state.

Sukhu highlighted that the state government has made significant revisions to its sports policy, resulting in a historic increase in rewards. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening sports infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister further announced a ₹1 crore reward for Renuka Thakur, a player from the Indian women’s cricket team, in recognition of her outstanding achievements. The event was also attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil and the Chief Minister’s Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan.
