Heavy Rain and Storms Hit Bihar; Red Alert Issued for Sitamarhi and Madhubani

Bihar faces heavy rain and storms, with a red alert declared for Sitamarhi and Madhubani as weather conditions worsen.

Patna, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall and storms across several regions in Bihar on Saturday. The Patna Meteorological Center issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for districts including Bhojpur, Saran, Siwan, West Champaran, East Champaran, Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Khagaria, Munger, Banka, Bhagalpur, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, and Jamui, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h.

An ‘Orange Alert’ has been declared for Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad, while a ‘Red Alert’ has been issued specifically for Sitamarhi and Madhubani, where the impact of the weather is expected to be most severe.

Recent intermittent rains have already disrupted daily life in many parts of the state. The weather department anticipates strong winds, lightning, and further rainfall in various districts. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and seek shelter during storms.

Authorities recommend that people avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay away from trees. They also advise against heeding rumors and encourage following only official weather updates.

Farmers are particularly concerned about the impact of the continuous rains. The department has advised them to drain excess water from fields and secure harvested crops to minimize potential damage.

Reports indicate that the ongoing rains have caused standing rice crops to fall in several areas. Farmers worry that strong winds and rain could damage their crops, leading to significant economic losses.

The rainfall has resulted in a temperature drop of 5-7 degrees Celsius in many parts of Bihar, making the weather cooler and bringing light fog in the mornings.

Authorities are urging residents, especially those in districts under weather alerts, to stay cautious and adhere to safety guidelines.
