Dehradun, September 1: Continuous heavy rainfall in North India has prompted authorities to issue alerts. In response, schools in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, and Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, will remain closed on September 2.
The Meteorological Department in Dehradun issued an orange and yellow alert at 3:30 PM on September 1. The forecast indicates the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall in various districts. The ongoing rains in mountainous regions have also raised water levels in rivers and streams.
In light of this, District Magistrate Nitin Bhadauria has issued a significant directive. As the chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, he announced that all government, semi-government, and private schools in Udham Singh Nagar, for grades 1 to 12, will be closed on Wednesday, September 2. However, teachers, non-teaching staff, and Anganwadi workers are required to report to their respective centers to carry out departmental duties. A warning has been issued that violations of this order may result in action under Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. This order is effective immediately.
Meanwhile, in Lakhimpur Kheri, the decision to close schools was made due to continuous rainfall, waterlogging, and the potential for excessive rainfall. District Basic Education Officer Praveen Kumar Tiwari has issued an order regarding this.
According to the order, all government-recognized, aided, CBSE, ICSE, and other board schools for grades 1 to 8 in the district will also remain closed on September 2. All teachers and non-teaching staff are expected to be present at school to complete various departmental tasks, including Aadhar ID, DBT, U-DISE, and other responsibilities. Strict adherence to the order has been mandated.
Both districts’ administrations have urged parents to keep their children safe at home during adverse weather conditions and to disregard any rumors.
