Heatwave Grips Central India: 20 Cities in Madhya Pradesh Record Over 40°C, Narmadapuram Hottest at 43.6°C

Madhya Pradesh Weather Update: Rising Temperatures Spark Heatwave Alerts

Heatwave

Madhya Pradesh is witnessing an intense surge in temperatures, with over 20 major cities crossing the 40°C mark. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several regions, urging residents to take necessary precautions as the mercury continues to soar. The hottest city on Thursday was Narmadapuram, recording a blistering 43.6°C, followed closely by Ratlam at 43.2°C.

Sweltering Conditions Across the State

Major urban centers including Bhopal (41.1°C), Indore (40.4°C), Ujjain (41.5°C), and Gwalior (42°C) are experiencing extreme heat. Even smaller districts like Shajapur (42.1°C), Khargone (40.6°C), and Shivpuri (40°C) have joined the list of high-temperature zones. This rise in temperatures is attributed to clear skies, increased solar radiation, and dry winds, particularly affecting the Malwa, Nimar, Chambal, and Bundelkhand regions.

In sharp contrast, some areas such as Shajapur and Sehore reported light rainfall on Thursday, offering brief relief. However, forecasts predict sustained heat in most districts, with only a few southern regions like Barwani, Mandla, and Balaghat likely to see isolated showers in the next 24 hours.

IMD Advisory and Health Precautions

In light of the severe heatwave conditions, the IMD has strongly advised residents to avoid venturing outdoors between 12 PM and 4 PM. During these peak hours, ultraviolet radiation and hot winds can increase the risk of heatstroke and dehydration. The department also recommends wearing light cotton clothing, staying hydrated, and avoiding heavy meals.

Night temperatures are also on the rise, further contributing to public discomfort. Experts warn that the heatwave pattern may persist for at least five more days across most parts of the state.
