Chandigarh, March 17: The Haryana State Women’s Commission has adopted a firm stance against the rising obscenity and objectionable content in the entertainment industry. Following concerns raised about popular singer Badshah’s song “Tatiiri,” the Commission has now expressed objections to another Bollywood song, “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke.” The Commission has written to the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), voicing deep concerns over the inappropriate words and visual content used in this song.
Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Women’s Commission, stated that the Commission clarified in its letter that it is a statutory body established under the HSCW Act of 2012. Its primary objective is to protect and promote the rights and interests of women.
In the letter, the Commission noted a troubling increase in obscenity and indecency in songs approved for public performance in recent days. Specifically, the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke,” featuring actress and dancer Nora Fatehi, contains material that appears to violate the standards and guidelines set forth by the Cinematograph Act of 1952. The Commission also highlighted that such songs could have negative and long-term effects on children and youth, particularly the younger generation, which is heavily influenced by popular media. The growing trend of obscene visuals and suggestive lyrics raises questions about the functioning and responsibilities of the censor board.
The Women’s Commission believes that media plays a crucial role in shaping societal moral and cultural values. Therefore, it is the duty of all regulatory bodies to fulfill their responsibilities with utmost integrity, accountability, and in accordance with legal provisions. The Commission has requested the CBFC to provide a detailed response on this matter promptly and to take necessary steps to ensure rigorous scrutiny of such content in the future.
The strict measures being taken by the Women’s Commission against obscene and objectionable content are seen as vital steps towards guiding society in a positive direction. They also serve as a strong message to antisocial elements that harbor negative views towards women.
