Haryana Chief Minister Practices Yoga, Celebrates Global Recognition of Indian Tradition

Chandigarh, June 16: In preparation for International Yoga Day 2026, a special yoga event was held at the Haryana Assembly. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini participated in a yoga session on Tuesday and emphasized the significance of yoga. He stated that it is a matter of pride for the entire nation that India’s ancient yoga tradition has been embraced worldwide.

CM Saini highlighted that in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the celebration of International Yoga Day at the United Nations to give yoga a global identity. This proposal was warmly welcomed by countries around the world. He noted that when the proposal was presented at the UN, it received support from 170 nations, marking a historic achievement.

This year, as we celebrate the 12th International Yoga Day, CM Saini expressed pride that the entire world has connected with yoga. He remarked that this initiative is not just a proposal but a global acknowledgment of India’s cultural strength and ancient heritage.

Describing yoga as an integral part of India’s eternal tradition, he mentioned its references in the Bhagavad Gita. The principles of Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Jnana Yoga, as taught by Lord Krishna, continue to guide human life today. Yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a comprehensive system for achieving balance and health in life.

The Chief Minister stated that through International Yoga Day, the world honors the invaluable knowledge and heritage bestowed by India’s sages. Today, almost all countries celebrate Yoga Day, symbolizing the global acceptance of India’s spiritual and cultural traditions.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21. The proposal to observe this day was approved by 177 member states of the United Nations on December 11, 2014.
