Gandhinagar, May 15: The Gujarat government has announced several measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption, government expenditure, and foreign currency outflow. These initiatives also promote the use of virtual administration and public transportation across all departments.
This decision came during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for prudent resource utilization.
After the meeting, state government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani addressed the media, stating that the state has decided to implement various administrative measures in light of the current global situation and the need for resource conservation. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state government is committed to protecting both the environment and the state treasury.
According to the new guidelines, travel for government work will only be undertaken when absolutely necessary. Officials have been instructed to avoid direct travel whenever possible, opting instead for video conferencing, phone calls, and emails for official tasks.
Departments have also been directed not to summon ground-level officials for meetings unless essential, and to conduct discussions via virtual platforms instead. Officials attending meetings organized by the central or other state governments are similarly advised to participate online whenever feasible.
Additionally, the state government has decided to avoid foreign travel, foreign training programs, seminars, and conferences, except in unavoidable circumstances. When travel outside Gujarat is essential, senior officials have been instructed not to take unnecessary staff with them.
Officials are also advised to minimize travel between districts for government work. If such travel is unavoidable, they must inform their controlling officer before departure.
