Five Charged in Fraud Case Involving Fake Property Sales in Baramulla
Five individuals face charges for defrauding a victim of over ₹1 crore through fake property sales in Baramulla, Kashmir.

Baramulla, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against five individuals in connection with a fraud case in Baramulla. Authorities reported that the accused allegedly deceived the victim through the fraudulent sale of property belonging to migrants, resulting in a loss exceeding ₹1 crore.
The chargesheet was submitted to the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Sopore. The case is registered under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), including fraud, misrepresentation, forgery, use of fake documents, and criminal conspiracy.
The fraudulent activity involves the alleged sale of 14 kanals and 3 marlas of land located in Woosun, Goshbugh Pattan, previously owned by Jawahar Lal Bhatt. According to the investigation, the complainant paid over ₹1 crore for the land but neither received possession nor a refund.
Investigators discovered that the accused had conspired to swindle the complainant by providing false identities, preparing fake identification documents, and misusing a purported ‘power of attorney.’
The accused have been identified as Brij Nath from Amit Nagar in Jammu, Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar from Badgam, Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh from Sachaen Banet in Badgam, Zahoor Ahmad Dar from Margipora in Pattan, and Riyaz Ahmad Rather.
Authorities noted that two of the accused, Brij Nath and Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, were arrested at the end of September. While Dar has since been granted bail, Nath remains in Central Jail. Investigations are ongoing into other cases involving these two individuals.
In August 2023, the EOW had previously filed a chargesheet against Brij Nath and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh in a separate case, making this the second chargesheet against them.
The SSP of EOW Kashmir has urged the public to thoroughly verify land ownership records and property documents before engaging in any transactions to avoid fraud and financial loss.
