Manchester City Advances to Carabao Cup Quarterfinals After Thrilling Penalty Shootout Win Over Brighton
Manchester City secures a spot in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals by defeating Brighton in a tense penalty shootout.

Manchester, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Manchester City Football Club, the reigning champions, secured their place in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals after a dramatic penalty shootout victory against Brighton & Hove Albion on October 29.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions. Brighton’s Malick Sylla opened the scoring in the 30th minute, giving his team an early lead. Just before halftime, Mateo Kovacic equalized with a stunning long-range shot. However, shortly after the second half began, Georginio Rutter restored Brighton’s advantage.
Brighton had a chance to extend their lead to 3-1, but City goalkeeper Jeronimo Rulli made an exceptional save, denying Rutter his second goal. In the 72nd minute, Ryan Cherki’s free-kick deflected off Vitor Reis and found the back of the net, leveling the score once again.
The match ultimately went to penalties, where Rulli shone once more by saving two penalty kicks. Manchester City triumphed in the shootout, winning 4-3. Earlier in September, they had overwhelmed Norwich City with a 5-0 victory, keeping their hopes alive of defending the trophy they won at Wembley last March. If they clinch the title this season, it would mark Manchester City’s tenth League Cup victory, tying them with Liverpool for the most titles in the tournament’s history.
In the quarterfinals, Manchester City will face Bradford City at home. This match is set to take place during the week starting December 14. Bradford secured their spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Peterborough United, thanks to goals from Macauley Gillesphey and Adam Phillips. The Bantams have reached the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2012/13 season, having previously overcome Rochdale, Burnley, Leyton Orient, and Peterborough United in earlier rounds.
