Ahmedabad, March 20: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel addressed the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) state annual session in Ahmedabad on Friday. He announced that Gujarat is on track to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to supporting the industry in achieving this ambitious goal.
Speaking at the CII state annual session and the conference titled “Gujarat: A Trillion-Dollar Economy,” Patel stated that the state is progressing along the development path envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He remarked, “Following the developmental roadmap outlined by the Prime Minister, Gujarat is advancing towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The state government is dedicated to providing all necessary support in partnership with entrepreneurs to achieve this target.”
Reflecting on the earlier phases of industrial development, the CM noted, “There was a time when development in Gujarat was limited to the Vapi-Vadodara region. However, with a vision for inclusive development across the state, essential infrastructure like water and electricity has been strengthened.”
He further highlighted that the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, initiated in 2003, has played a crucial role in attracting global investments, making the state a preferred destination for investors.
Discussing recent developments, he cited investments made by Micron Technology as an example of growing global confidence. He stated, “The strong global trust in the Prime Minister’s leadership has brought advanced industries like semiconductors to India, particularly Gujarat. What once seemed impossible is now becoming a reality in the state.”
The Chief Minister mentioned key economic indicators, noting that while Gujarat’s population accounts for about 5% of the country’s total, it contributes nearly 8% to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The goal is to increase this share to over 10%.
He added that the state holds a 17% share in the country’s manufacturing output and contributes 33% to total exports, managing 40% of the nation’s goods.
Patel also highlighted specific contributions from various sectors. He noted that Gujarat’s chemical industry accounts for 33% of the sector, with 19.2% of pharmaceutical exports and 80% of diamond exports.
He further stated that the number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) has surged from 185,000 in 2001-02 to the current 2.79 million.
Describing Gujarat as a “policy-driven state,” Patel assured that clear policies have been established to ensure transparency for entrepreneurs at all levels. Necessary adjustments are being made to meet changing needs, and he also mentioned that the state has developed a roadmap aligned with the goal of “Developed India by 2047,” which is already in implementation.
