Noida, 19 November (Daily Kiran). Air pollution in Delhi-NCR has reached an alarming and dangerous stage, with conditions worsening steadily. Greater Noida has emerged as the most polluted city in the country, recording the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) levels this season. On Tuesday, the AQI touched 454, and by Wednesday morning, it spiked further to 473 at the Knowledge Park–V monitoring station — a level far beyond the ‘severe’ category.

Health experts have warned that pollution at this intensity poses an extreme threat to human life. Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad are witnessing similarly hazardous air quality. Several stations in Delhi reported AQI readings between 400 and 450, while Noida’s Sector-125, Sector-116 and Sector-1 areas recorded levels between 430 and 445.
In Ghaziabad, areas like Sanjay Nagar and Loni also saw AQI values above 440, highlighting the grim and deteriorating situation across the region. This spike comes despite the enforcement of GRAP–3 (Graded Response Action Plan) measures, which include a ban on construction activities, restrictions on generator sets, curbs on diesel truck entry and regular water sprinkling on roads. However, these steps have not yet resulted in significant improvement.
Experts attribute the rising pollution to increasing vehicular emissions, waste burning, construction dust, industrial smoke and stubble burning in neighbouring states. The India Meteorological Department has indicated no likelihood of strong winds or rainfall this week. With minimum temperatures around 11°C, maximum temperatures near 26°C and persistent fog-like conditions, pollutants are expected to remain trapped in the air — meaning relief is unlikely in the coming days.
Doctors have issued a strict advisory, warning that the current air quality is extremely hazardous for children, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with heart or respiratory illnesses. They have urged people to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, wear masks and postpone morning and evening walks.
