Government Revises Commission Rates for Wheat and Rice Procurement

New Delhi, April 28: The Indian government has approved revisions to the commission rates for agents and cooperative societies involved in the procurement of wheat and rice. This change will take effect from the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2026-27.

According to existing guidelines, commissions are awarded to committees, cooperative societies, sub-agents, and agents that facilitate the government’s wheat and rice procurement processes, providing essential services related to mediation and aggregation.

In response to requests from various state governments for adjustments to the commission rates, a sub-committee was formed. This committee included representatives from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), state governments, and the Department of Food and Public Distribution. They reviewed the current rates and recommended changes to the commission structure.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the government has approved an increase in commission rates for agents and committees involved in wheat and rice procurement. After the revision, the commission for agents in Punjab and Haryana will rise from ₹46.00 to ₹50.75 per quintal for wheat. In Rajasthan, the rate will increase from ₹41.40 to ₹45.67 per quintal. For rice, the commission will go up from ₹45.88 to ₹50.61 per quintal.

Similarly, changes have also been made to the commissions for cooperative societies. The commission for wheat procurement will increase from ₹27.00 to ₹29.79 per quintal, while for rice, it will rise from ₹32.00 to ₹35.30 per quintal.

For purchases made in modern silos, the commission will be set at 50 percent of the prevailing market rate.

This adjustment in commission rates aims to ensure the continued efficiency of the procurement system and support agencies involved in facilitating government procurement activities.
