Government Cracks Down on Fuel and LPG Black Market with Over 17,000 Raids

Lucknow, March 31: The government is taking decisive action against the black market for petrol, diesel, and LPG in the state. Since March 12, authorities have conducted 17,581 raids and inspections to curb illegal sales. During this period, 33 FIRs were filed against LPG distributors, leading to the arrest of 17 individuals. Additionally, legal action has been initiated against 224 others.

Following directives from the Chief Secretary, local administrations across all districts are actively monitoring the situation. District supply officers and local officials are regularly inspecting to ensure timely delivery of gas cylinders and fuel to consumers.

Currently, the supply of petrol and diesel in the state is normal. There are 12,888 petrol pumps operating, and thousands of kiloliters of fuel were sold between March 27 and 29. The state has approximately 91,000 kiloliters of petrol and 115,000 kiloliters of diesel in stock. The government has urged residents not to panic and hoard fuel.

The situation regarding LPG is also reported to be satisfactory. Consumers are receiving cylinders as per bookings through 4,107 gas distributors, with sufficient stock available. The government is also focusing on expanding the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. In a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, instructions were given to expedite pending approvals and to issue more PNG connections. Furthermore, the central government has allowed a 20% increase in the allocation of commercial LPG cylinders since March 23.

To monitor the supply system, a 24-hour control room has been established at the Food Commissioner’s office. Control rooms are also active in all districts, continuously overseeing the situation. The government assures that there is ample availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the state, and strict action against any form of black marketing or hoarding will continue.
