Government Approves PM Mega Integrated Textile Parks Across Seven States

New Delhi, March 27: The government has finalized plans to establish PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks in several states, including Uttar Pradesh. The states involved are Tamil Nadu (Virudhunagar), Telangana (Warangal), Gujarat (Navsari), Karnataka (Kalaburagi), Madhya Pradesh (Dhar), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow), and Maharashtra (Amravati). This information was shared by Textile Minister Giriraj Singh in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Additionally, the government announced a “Challenge Mode for the establishment of Mega Textile Parks” in the Union Budget for 2026-27. To ensure swift approval and implementation of the plan, the ministry has initiated a consultation process with state governments and other stakeholders.

The government is also running the National Handloom Development Program, raw material supply schemes, and other initiatives aimed at modernizing and strengthening the handloom sector across the country, including Rajasthan.

Under these schemes, eligible handloom agencies and workers receive financial assistance for purchasing raw materials, advanced looms, and equipment, as well as for constructing solar power units, workshops, product diversification, design innovation, technical and general infrastructure, marketing handloom products in domestic and international markets, and providing discounted loans under the weavers’ credit scheme and social security.

Furthermore, the government implements two programs for the overall development and promotion of the handicraft sector: the National Handicraft Development Program (NHDP) and the Comprehensive Handicraft Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS).

These initiatives provide artisans with necessary financial and technical support through marketing programs, skill development, cluster development, formation of producer companies, direct benefits to artisans, infrastructural and technical assistance, research and development support, digitization, branding of handicraft products, and marketing in domestic and international markets, benefiting traditional crafts and artisans nationwide.

The Union Budget also announced an integrated textile program, which includes the Textile Expansion and Employment Mission (TEEM), aimed at providing capital assistance for machinery, technology upgrades, and modernizing traditional clusters with general testing and certification centers.
