
New Delhi, June 21: On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to people around the globe. He stated that yoga is uniting the world for health and a better quality of life.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi said, “Heartfelt thanks to everyone for making International Yoga Day 2026 a true global celebration. It is heartening to see yoga bringing together people from different countries and backgrounds with a shared spirit of good health and improved living.”
The Prime Minister hopes this day inspires more individuals to incorporate yoga into their daily lives.
This year marks the 12th International Yoga Day, with the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging.’ The aim is to highlight that yoga can be beneficial for people of all ages.
According to the United Nations, yoga can be a valuable practice as one ages, helping individuals remain active, self-reliant, and live better lives. Yoga includes light exercises, stretching, breathing techniques, and meditation, which enhance balance, flexibility, strength, and mobility while also reducing stress and improving mental health.
In Russia, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center at the Indian Embassy in Moscow organized the 12th International Yoga Day in collaboration with the Moscow City Government at the prestigious Lomonosov Moscow State University’s Universitetskaya Square. This year’s theme was ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging.’
In Germany, the Indian Embassy in Berlin and the Tagore Cultural Center celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 in front of the historic Brandenburg Gate, with over 500 participants joining the event.
The Indian Embassy in Madrid reported that during the event, the ambassador addressed hundreds of attendees, stating that International Yoga Day, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has become a global movement. Similarly, International Yoga Day was celebrated at the Sports University Stadium in Budapest, Hungary.
In the Spanish capital, Madrid, the 12th International Yoga Day was enthusiastically celebrated against the stunning backdrop of the Royal Palace and Plaza de Oriente, showcasing the popularity of yoga and its universal message.
