German Passengers Evacuated from Cruise Ship Amid Hantavirus Outbreak

Berlin, May 11: Four German passengers have been safely evacuated from the cruise ship MV Hondius following a hantavirus outbreak, as reported by Germany’s public broadcaster ARD on their news website, Tagesschau.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the passengers were welcomed by experts upon their arrival in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on Sunday evening and were subsequently transported to Frankfurt.

After undergoing medical examinations, the passengers will return to their respective home states for quarantine. One passenger is set to be admitted to Charité Hospital in Berlin.

In addition to the four passengers, a 65-year-old German woman had already been hospitalized in Düsseldorf. Authorities indicated that she had come into contact with another passenger who died from the virus on board, although she has not shown any symptoms of infection. Reports suggest that none of the returning passengers exhibited symptoms.

Meanwhile, twenty British nationals evacuated from the MV Hondius have been isolated in a hospital in North West England as officials ramp up efforts to control and monitor the outbreak.

The passengers disembarked earlier in Manchester and were then transported by bus to Arrowe Park Hospital in Merseyside, where they will remain under medical observation for 72 hours.

The British government has stated that all passengers and crew members returning from the MV Hondius will be isolated for a total of 45 days and will be closely monitored. Further investigations are ongoing for individuals who may have come into contact with confirmed or suspected cases.
