Jabalpur, April 6: The Crime Branch of Jabalpur has successfully dismantled an interstate fraud gang, arresting four individuals on Monday. These suspects were involved in defrauding people of millions of rupees through counterfeit gold coins.
According to police reports, the arrested individuals were found in possession of approximately ₹1.55 crore in cash, 84 grams of genuine gold, nearly 20 kilograms of fake gold coins, and 11 mobile phones.
Officials revealed that the gang employed cunning tactics to ensnare their victims. They posed as laborers and contacted ordinary citizens, luring them with promises of buried treasure. Initially, they would show real gold coins to gain the victims’ trust, only to later deceive them with large quantities of fake gold, resulting in significant financial losses. Investigations have uncovered three separate fraud cases, with the gang reportedly swindling amounts of ₹10 lakh, ₹50 lakh, and ₹1 crore. Authorities believe that more victims may come forward.
This operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay. The Crime Branch team tracked the suspects using technical evidence and apprehended them in Jhansi, from where they were brought back to Jabalpur.
The arrested individuals are reportedly from Faridabad and are believed to be family members. During interrogation, they confessed to hiding the proceeds of their fraud in a rented house located in the Panagar area of Jabalpur. Following their lead, police recovered cash and other items from the property. Cases have been registered against all suspects under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and further investigations are ongoing. The police are also looking into other members of the gang and their network.
