In an interview, Bhattacharya expressed his gratitude towards those involved in the wall-writing campaign, referring to them as his “younger brothers.” He stated, “I know each one of them personally, and this effort is still ongoing. On one hand, I could tell them to stop, but on the other, I encourage them to continue. There was a special hope in the hearts of the people that has not been fulfilled, which is why this campaign is taking place. It’s not just a few individuals; thousands are participating.”
Bhattacharya emphasized his support for the principle of ‘self-reliance,’ which he introduced when he joined the BJP in 2021. He added, “Now that everyone is expressing their support, I intend to ask them directly. If they confirm that there is indeed a need for ‘self-reliance,’ I will move forward with my election campaign.”
He also criticized Jagannath Sarkar, the MP from the Ranaghat constituency, saying, “I worked hard to ensure the BJP candidate’s victory in Shantipur in 2021. However, after winning, that person boasted, ‘I have become a hero; I achieved this victory.’ He neglected the votes of the common people and disappointed the party workers who opposed the ruling party to secure his win.”
Bhattacharya affirmed, “I have stood with the people of Shantipur in the past, and I stand with them today.” The wall-writing campaign, which is being conducted without any electoral symbols, has become a significant topic of discussion locally. Residents believe that Arindam Bhattacharya has maintained considerable popularity in Shantipur, and his independent candidacy could reshape the political landscape in the area.
