Food Companies Revise Labels Following FSSAI Notices on Misleading Claims

New Delhi, August 16: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has prompted several food business operators (FBOs) to take corrective actions after issuing notices regarding misleading claims, non-standardized products, and violations of labeling regulations. This information was released by the government agency on Sunday.

The FSSAI stated, “Following the notices, major food business operators have swiftly implemented corrective measures. These actions include the removal of misleading label claims and changes in product packaging to ensure consumer safety and compliance with regulations.”

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the FSSAI noted that Honest Innovation For You Private Limited and HelioStone Specialties Private Limited received notices for the use of misleading trademarks. After the FSSAI’s notice, both companies changed the names of their products.

Similarly, Rajasthan Agro and General Industries was found to be using misleading trademarks. In compliance with the notice, the company removed all misleading claims and ceased using the term “PPM” in product-related communications.

In another case, Aiyota Nanotechnology Private Limited was identified for non-standardized products. The company removed misleading claims from its product labels and stopped the production of non-standardized water.

Panchamrut Industries Private Limited received a notice regarding an electrolyte drink. Following the notice, the company removed this product from its website.

The FSSAI also mentioned the corrective actions taken by Livyor Ventures Private Limited concerning misleading “vegan” and “healthy” claims on the label of their product “Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans.” The company stated that these claims were inadvertently printed on the product label due to a lack of knowledge about applicable regulations.

The company expressed regret over this violation and apologized, assuring that such mistakes would not occur again in the future. They also presented a revised label and announced that the existing packaging materials containing the misleading claims would be destroyed.

Additionally, the company has initiated a process to amend its product labels to prevent the use of misleading claims in the future.
