Flood Conditions Improve in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh; Administration Begins Damage Assessment

Mumbai, August 25: Heavy rainfall last week led to flood-like conditions in several areas of Rewa district. However, the water levels in rivers are now rapidly decreasing, and the accumulated water in affected areas is also receding. In light of this, the administration has commenced damage assessments and recovery efforts post-flood.

Collector Narendra Kumar SuryaVanshi instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) on Monday to deploy patwaris and other field staff for damage surveys, with a report due within three days. This survey will include assessments of damage to homes, belongings, and crops to prepare relief measures and distribute aid according to government regulations.

The Collector also directed urban local bodies and village panchayats to initiate immediate cleanup operations in the affected areas. The Public Works Department has been tasked with repairing damaged roads, while the electricity board has been instructed to fix downed power lines and transformers.

This new initiative follows Chief Minister Mohan Yadav‘s visit to assess the rainfall and flood situation in Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur divisions, where he assured compensation for those affected.

SuryaVanshi stated, “The water levels in rivers across the district are falling rapidly, and flooding is decreasing. Cleanup operations will commence immediately in all affected areas. The health department has been directed to set up health camps and ensure adequate medicines for monsoon-related illnesses.”

The Animal Husbandry Department has been instructed to manage the disposal of deceased livestock and arrange vaccinations and treatment for sick animals. Similarly, the Public Health Engineering Department has been asked to chlorinate drinking water sources and inspect wells and hand pumps in flood-affected areas. The Agriculture Department has been tasked with assessing crop damage and submitting a report.

SuryaVanshi emphasized, “The damage survey must be completed within three days to ensure timely relief for eligible affected individuals. All departments should prioritize addressing post-flood issues.”
