Father Arrested for Allegedly Killing 17-Year-Old Son with Axe in Ranchi
A father in Ranchi has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old son with an axe amid concerns over his mental health.
Ranchi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : In a tragic incident in Ranchi, a father has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old son with an axe. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Sia Toli area of Bobro village, situated within the Bero police jurisdiction. The accused, identified as Devanath Oraon, is currently in police custody. Authorities have also recovered the axe believed to have been used in the crime.
According to reports, Devanath has a history of mental health issues. Family members noted that he often attempted to flee from home. Concerned for his safety, his son, Nitesh Oraon, had been keeping him confined at home. On Monday morning around 4 a.m., while Nitesh was asleep, his father allegedly struck him multiple times on the head with the axe. The severity of the injuries led to Nitesh’s death at the scene. At the time, Nitesh’s mother was also present in the house. She rushed to the room upon hearing the commotion but found her son already deceased.
The family is now in mourning, as Nitesh was their only child. Following the incident, Devanath reportedly exited the house and informed neighbors that he had killed his son. Upon receiving this alarming news, Bero police officer Shailendra Tudu and ASI Shiv Kumar arrived at the scene with their team. The police took Devanath into custody and seized the axe used in the alleged murder.
Nitesh was a ninth-grade student at Modern Public School in Narakopi. The police have taken possession of the body and are conducting an investigation, including an examination of Devanath’s mental state and the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
