EU Expands Travel Ban List Against Russia in Response to New Sanctions

Moscow, April 28: The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that it has significantly expanded the list of individuals from the European Union (EU) who are banned from entering Russia. This move is a direct response to the EU’s 20th package of sanctions.

The ministry stated that these decisions are illegal and that the banned list includes representatives from European institutions, EU member states, and several European countries that support anti-Russian policies from Brussels.

The EU has been consistently increasing pressure on Russia through unilateral sanctions. This latest package was approved by the EU Council on April 23.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, such actions, which disregard the United Nations Security Council, constitute a blatant violation of international law.

The ministry revealed that those banned include individuals involved in decisions to provide military assistance to Ukraine, activities that undermine Russia’s territorial integrity, and those playing a role in imposing sanctions on Russia. Additionally, they include individuals who are damaging Russia’s relationships with other countries, obstructing maritime activities against Russian interests, fabricating false cases against Russian officials, attempting to create a “tribunal” against Russian leadership, and discussing the seizure of Russian government assets or profits derived from them.

Russia has also taken action against certain social activists and academics from European countries who maintain a hardline stance against it. Members of the parliaments of EU member states and the European Parliament who voted in favor of anti-Russian proposals and laws are also included on this list.

The ministry emphasized that these EU policies will not affect Russia’s foreign policy. Russia asserts that it will continue to defend its national interests, ensure the rights and freedoms of its citizens, and actively participate in creating a fair, multipolar world order.

Furthermore, alongside the 20th sanctions package, the EU has decided to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros.
