Engineer Rashids Bail Plea Hearing at Delhi High Court

New Delhi, April 28: The Delhi High Court is set to hear the interim bail plea of Engineer Rashid, a Member of Parliament from Baramulla, who is currently imprisoned in a terror funding case. This crucial hearing is scheduled for 2:30 PM, drawing significant attention.

Siddharth Luthra, the lawyer representing the National Investigation Agency (NIA), requested additional time to present confidential documents in response to the court’s inquiries. He stated that he needed time to seek instructions on the matter.

The NIA strongly opposed the interim bail in court. The agency’s lawyer argued that during the previous hearing, a protected witness was interrogated before a special judge, but the witness contradicted their earlier statement. Based on this, the agency argued against granting bail.

On the other hand, Rashid’s lawyer, Hariharan, advocated for bail on humanitarian grounds. He noted that the plea was filed considering the deteriorating health of Rashid’s elderly father. According to him, Rashid’s father’s condition is extremely serious, and it appears he is nearing the end of his life. He has been hospitalized for medical procedures.

Hariharan also pointed out that when Rashid was previously granted permission to campaign, the NIA did not raise any objections. Therefore, he questioned why there was opposition now that Rashid seeks interim bail to visit his ailing father.

It is important to note that Engineer Rashid is seeking interim bail to meet his sick father. However, the Patiala House Court had already rejected this plea. He has now challenged this decision in the Delhi High Court.
