New Delhi, March 9: Efforts to repatriate Indian citizens stranded in Doha have gained momentum. Amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to New Delhi successfully transported over 300 passengers back to India on Monday morning.
The Indian Embassy in Doha has announced that additional flights, helplines, and alternative travel routes are being arranged to assist stranded travelers.
Expressing gratitude to Qatar Airways, the embassy reported that nearly 1,000 passengers have been evacuated to India via Qatar Airways flights over the past three days. Additionally, the airline has facilitated the repatriation of a deceased Indian citizen (due to natural causes) and assisted their family with travel arrangements. The embassy also thanked community volunteers for their support to the affected families.
The embassy shared that Qatar Airways plans to operate three flights to Delhi, Mumbai, and Kochi on March 10. Stranded Indian travelers are urged to utilize these flights to return home. Given the current circumstances, flight operations are challenging and subject to sudden changes, so passengers are advised to stay in contact with the airline regarding their travel plans.
For those holding Saudi visas, there is an option to travel to Saudi Arabia via the Salwa border crossing. Since the conflict began, many Indians have traveled to Saudi Arabia to catch flights back to India. The embassy is also assisting stranded passengers in obtaining Saudi visas.
The embassy stated that they are making every effort to respond to messages and emails received at their designated email address. They are also operating a 24/7 helpline (numbers: +974-55647502, 55362508, or 55384683) for travelers seeking information. Additionally, Indian community organizations, such as ICC and ICBF, are actively supporting and assisting the Indian community.
The embassy advised the Indian community to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior for their safety. They urged responsible use of social media, refraining from taking or sharing images related to the current situation, and relying only on credible sources for information while avoiding rumors.
