
Srinagar, March 24: A drug trafficker has been arrested in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities seized 771 grams of narcotics from the suspect. The district police announced this on Tuesday.
According to a police spokesperson, the arrest occurred during a major operation against drug trafficking. Pulwama police apprehended a suspicious individual at a checkpoint, recovering a significant quantity of narcotics. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.
The arrest took place near the Women’s Degree College on Tengpora Road. During the checkpoint, a team from the Pulwama police station stopped a suspect carrying a nylon bag. Upon searching, they discovered approximately 771 grams of a substance resembling charas or ganja inside the bag.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Arif Malik, son of Riyaz Ahmed Malik, a resident of Malikpora in Pulwama.
Following this, an FIR was filed at the Pulwama police station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing. The Pulwama police reiterated their commitment to combat the menace of drugs and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug abuse or trafficking.
The Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces are actively conducting anti-terrorism operations in the union territory. They are closely monitoring drug traffickers, drug peddlers, and individuals involved in hawala and other illegal financial activities.
It is believed that the money obtained from drug trafficking, illegal trade, and hawala rackets is ultimately used to promote terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The army and Border Security Force (BSF), responsible for securing the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders, are deployed to prevent infiltration, drug trafficking, and cross-border drone activities.
Terrorist organizations, with the assistance of Pakistan’s ISI, are reportedly using drones to drop consignments of weapons, ammunition, cash, and narcotics into Indian territory to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
