Bareilly, July 11: In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a woman has filed a police complaint against her doctor husband and in-laws for dowry harassment and triple talaq. Police Commissioner Ashutosh Shivam confirmed the registration of an FIR following the woman’s report at the Cantt police station on Friday.
The woman stated that her marriage took place in Uttarakhand in 2019. She alleged that her husband has physically abused her repeatedly, with other family members, including her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, also involved in the violence.
Commissioner Shivam revealed that the woman has been subjected to both physical and mental torture for dowry demands. Additionally, she reported that she was given triple talaq in various locations.
The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Dowry Prohibition Act, and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The investigation is currently ongoing, and necessary legal actions are being taken.
In a related incident, another dowry harassment case emerged from Giridih district in Jharkhand. A woman died under suspicious circumstances just a month after her marriage, prompting her family and locals to block the Jamua-Khorimahua main road in protest. They demanded the arrest of her in-laws and a fair investigation. The protest ended after police negotiations.
Raziya Khatun, a resident of Bhucharobad (Azad Nagar) in the district, was married to Abzal Ansari from Kurumdiha village. Her suspicious death occurred on Thursday evening. Her family accused her in-laws of murder for dowry, claiming they had been demanding a motorcycle since the marriage and had subjected her to continuous harassment.
