DMK to Hold State Conference in Tiruchirappalli on March 9, Aiming to Strengthen Party Unity

Tiruchirappalli, March 7: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is set to host its 12th state conference on March 9 in Siruganur. Party leaders believe this event will energize workers and strengthen the organization ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Preparations for the DMK’s 12th state conference are in full swing. The conference will take place in a vast area of approximately 20 lakh square feet near Siruganur, with roads leading to the venue adorned with party flags and banners.

The extensive preparations indicate the significance the ruling party places on this conference. A large turnout from across Tamil Nadu is expected.

According to police, comprehensive arrangements have been made to manage the crowd and traffic. Initial estimates suggest that around 24,000 vehicles may arrive at the venue on the day of the conference. Consequently, a special traffic diversion plan has been devised for Tiruchirappalli and surrounding areas to avoid congestion and ensure smooth vehicle movement.

DMK’s General Secretary and senior minister K.N. Nehru stated on Saturday that the party anticipates the participation of 1 million workers and supporters at the event. He emphasized that this conference will serve as a significant platform for reinforcing party unity and organizing workers for upcoming political challenges.

Recalling the previous conference held at the same location in 2021, Nehru noted that it played a crucial role in energizing party workers ahead of the assembly elections. During that event, DMK President and current Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who was then the chief ministerial candidate, presented a long-term vision for Tamil Nadu’s development.

Party leaders believe that significant announcements or policy directions may also emerge from the Chief Minister during the March 9 conference, adding to its political importance.

This conference will further strengthen the party’s grip in central Tamil Nadu and the Cauvery Delta region, which were pivotal in DMK’s victory in the 2021 assembly elections. The party won 37 out of 41 seats in this area, including all nine seats in Tiruchirappalli district.

Senior party worker T. Durga Devi, a three-time councilor, mentioned that DMK conferences in Tiruchirappalli have traditionally attracted large crowds. She noted that since the era of Karunanidhi to the present leadership of Stalin, these conferences have consistently drawn significant numbers of workers. Previously, these events were held over two days, attracting supporters from across the state.
