New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Budget session of Parliament, JDU MP Dileshwar Kamait strongly criticised the opposition’s conduct. He firmly stated that instead of creating disruptions in the House, the opposition should raise issues concerning the public, as they have been elected by the people.
In an exclusive conversation with a news agency on Tuesday, Kamait said his party has consistently advised the opposition to act as representatives of the people by addressing public problems and their concerns within the House. However, during the previous session, the opposition repeatedly disturbed proceedings with noise and protests, hampering the smooth functioning of Parliament.
He added that the people have responded to this behaviour in the Bihar Assembly elections. Referring to the Bihar polls, Kamait pointed out that the public gave a decisive majority to the NDA government in the state, while the opposition’s presence is diminishing. He remarked that it clearly shows whom the public supports and whose approach they reject.
Kamait emphasised that work in the national interest is ongoing, and if the opposition has any questions or issues, they should be raised within the House. The government is fully prepared to answer all questions, but merely disrupting Parliament does not solve any problem. He noted that shutting down Parliament neither resolves public difficulties nor strengthens democracy.
On behalf of his party, Kamait appealed to the opposition to present their views in the House in the interest of the public, so that Parliament functions smoothly and public problems can be addressed. He said the primary purpose of Parliament is to bring public issues before the government and find solutions.
The JDU MP urged the opposition to play a constructive role, refrain from disrupting House proceedings, and work for the public good while respecting democratic norms. He assured that the government is always ready to cooperate but stressed that the opposition must also understand its responsibilities.
