Devotees Gather for Grand Dussehra Festival in Tiruchendur, Highlighted by Mahishasura Mardhini Event

Tiruchendur, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : The world-renowned Arulmigu Mutharamman Temple in Kulasekarapatnam, Tiruchendur, is celebrating the Dussehra festival with great fervor and devotion. One of the main highlights, the ‘Mahishasura Mardhini’ event, is set to take place at midnight on October 20, near the temple’s beach, drawing devotees from all over the country.
On the ninth day of the festival, which was celebrated on October 19, the goddess Ambal Kalaimagal made a grand appearance on a swan vehicle, blessing the gathered devotees as she paraded through the streets.
Following the famous Mysore Dussehra, the festival at the Sri Jnanamurthishwarar Sametha Mutharamman Temple in Thoothukudi district is well-known. The festivities began on October 11 with the hoisting of the flag and will continue for ten days, showcasing the goddess Ambal in various forms each day.
On the ninth day, special prayers and rituals were conducted at the temple. Various sacred items, including milk, turmeric, sandalwood, kumkum, and Panchamrit, were used for a unique abhishekam, followed by a grand lighting ceremony. Many devotees participated in this special prayer, receiving blessings from the goddess.
Later that night, Ambal Kalaimagal appeared before the devotees in her divine form, known as ‘Thirukola.’ A grand lighting ceremony was held in her honor, and she then took to the streets to bless her followers. A large crowd gathered around the temple, all eager to receive the goddess’s blessings with reverence.
The main event, ‘Mahishasura Mardhini,’ will attract numerous devotees to the temple beach at midnight on October 20. Those who have completed their vows and donned special attire are seen collecting offerings and donations to contribute to the temple’s treasury, fulfilling their wishes.
The atmosphere is vibrant, with festive celebrations echoing throughout the area as devotees engage in singing and dancing. The temple administration has made extensive arrangements to ensure the comfort of all attendees.
